Kristian Health Update

Hello Everyone,

Thank you for your thoughts, prayers, concerns, thoughtful wishes and just plain help as Eva and I wait for our beautiful boy to get better so he can return home to us.

Latest Update - 1:50pm 5/4/2010

After a fitful night of ups and downs Kristian is having a great day. His oxygen levels have rebounded into the high 90s while they are lowering the pressure of his respirator (he is even able to take a few breaths on his own every so often).

Kristian's blood gases have taken a good turn since last night and are coming in strong with all items within normal parameters.

Kristian is still on a respirator and his lungs are still pretty much filled with some kind of weird, virulent, very hornery infection (no one knows exactly what it is but tests have ruled out H1N1, staph, strep, flu, and a host of other potential culprits) that has basically built a fort in the bottom of his lungs. He does not breathe well on his back so he is resting on his stomach but with all of the tubes and IVs that he is on (at last count he was on 11 medications, 3 seperate tubes and a whole bunch of other bells and whistles) that doesn't look very comfortable. They are feeding him now through a tube so hopefully he will begin to regain his strength so he can start breathing fully on his own again soon (before they put him on the respirator, he hadn't had anything to eat for 6 days.)

Eva and I know that he is in the best, most capable hands on the planet (and the heavens too) and that he will be fine but we would prefer that he be fine sooner rather than later. The latest prognosis is that this will take up to 21 days for the infection to run its course and for the "fort" to fall.

Stay Tuned and thank you all for your prayers and thoughful wishes.
Eva and Scott Kerschbaumer
